Swoon

At the Tedx Brooklyn conference on Saturday, one of the speakers was Swoon (Caledonia “Callie” Dance Curry). She is a former Pratt student who wanted to connect her work with the world and take it out of the gallery, so she started doing wheat paste-ups of her works on walls around the city. She then moved on to creating small scenes that fit inside small holes in walls. Later she worked on a project of making makeshift rafts that sailed around various parts of the world. The overall theme of her work is to create magical or unexpected moments that bring a bit of whimsy into her viewers life. I love this idea of having unexpected moments, and I want to try to bring this into my own work.
